Another few inches of snow overnight, but we seem to have been spared the limb damage we had in the earlier storm.

No matter the weather, the animals must be fed!!

And despite the mess and hassle, the snow is really beautiful! (But hope this is the last of the season!)

Sunday Afternoon 03.24.2013

The snow began earlier than expected this afternoon around 3pm. By 5:30pm we had 3" on the ground. Heavy. wet snow, like 2 weeks ago.

                                                        From Farm House Kitchen Window

The forecast for our area was for 3"-6" of snow overnight! It is 7:30pm as I write this. The snow has let up a bit, but a second band is supposed to pass through in the next few hours! Who knows what the morning will bring!

Thursday 03.21.2013

Morning routines... all is well.

A sad note: Delivery of our newspaper stopped unexpectedly over 2 weeks ago, and Gary's voice mail box has been full.. Just learned today that he had a massive heart attack while delivering papers on Sunday, March 3rd, and died at the hospital. (Unusual that I had not heard about his passing before now?) Gary Van Fossen, from Faber, VA (Nelson County) had delivered our newspapers for over 12 years.

Cold this morning--23 degrees, bright and sunny though, with mild-to-brisk winds all day. The projected forecast for heavy wet snow Sunday into Monday still looms over us!

Caught a greeat shot of the barn with the late winter sky this morning!

This is the first day in many weeks that no one was on site other than Sherry the whole day. Had a number of tele conversations re: cottage, Guesthouses-Joyce, a delivery confirmation for tomorrow, and Patsy Wallenborn re: gardening work for next week.

Heading over in a few minutes for final lights out.

Monday-Friday 03.11-15.2013

Another mixed bag of weather this week, as winter winds down into early spring. We had 3"-4" of rain overnight Monday into Tuesday. This, following last week's heavy snow, has saturated the grounds with water. After a discussion with Tate (tree guy) tree work will be put off a week or two.

Clay Frazier and helper spent the morning on Monday cleaning up the widespread limb debris from last week's snow storm.Tractor lane to the bottom was too muddy and slippery to navigate safely, so we took all brush to the burn pile in the back pasture.

On Wednesday, Ron Bush's irrigation crew began marking off the lawns for the irrigation layout. Miss Utility rep returned to mark underground utilities.

Work on the fish pond continues.

Crew from Grelen Nursery trimmed the garden boxwoods.

Sunday, March 10, 2013

Wednesday morning, March 6, 2013.  Wet, heavy snow blanketed Ramsay within hours,  shutting down power by 8 AM, bringing down tree limbs and bending the more flexible trees and shrubs into bonsai-like shapes.  Here is the barn at about 10 AM.  (Photo by Susan)

Monday-Friday 03.04-08.2013

Quote from last week's post:   "But the calendar says there are three more weeks of winter, and March can bring late winter surprises with little warning! Didn't realize I was predicting the future!!"

The forecasts began over the weekend that Central Virginia might receive 12"-18" of snow from a classic late winter snowstorm that raced in from the mid-west. The storm began about 9pm Tuesday, and by late afternoon on Wednesday, we had 13" of heavy, wet snow blanketing the estate! Over 2 feet in the Valley.

                                                             Wednesday - about noon

                                                               Friday after much melting!

We were ready for a delivery at the Cottage on Wednesday--that NEVER came!!

We lost power about 8am Wed. and it was thankfully restored after lunch on Thursday. Many areas close by were without power until Sat. evening.

Routine activities--During another quiet, but weather-laden week at Ramsay!

Property checks, livestock feeding, lights on/off- & lock downs, receiving & unpacking deliveries (just a few) post office runs, materials runs for painters. Emails, texts, phone conversations, etc. Sherry here M,T,F. And the painters finished up the interior of the Studio.
